Have you seen many beautiful creations of bullet journal pages and thought ‘I could never do that!’? ….. Good news! You can do your bujo without art and calligraphy. This is the article you should be reading.
I have been doing bujo monthly themes with art for about one year now. Over that time, I have come across many You-tubers and Instagramers who have such a variety of styles. Yes, even some who do not use art or calligraphy! Still they are popular. So a quick answer to the title of this article is YES. You can, of course, do your bullet journal proud without using any art or calligraphy. Lets get into this topic!!
The big question you need to ask is..
WHAT AM I HOPING TO ACHIEVE WITH MY BULLET JOURNAL?
Why is this the key question? Well, I believe the goal function of your bullet journal dictates what you include in it. The easiest way I can describe the impact of this is by discussing my own..
I use my bullet journal in the same way many others do, as a planner/diary. The natural tendency is to think ‘Ok so that doesn’t require art!’ True….but you don’t know me. If I made my bullet journal as a minimal style planner I would not use it. To me, it would become like any planner that I could spend very little money on…and then not use. My bullet journal would then not be reaching it’s goal function. I wouldn’t be using it. Does that make sense?
So what does your bullet journal need you to include, so that it becomes the dream journal?? Only you can answer this. Here is an example:

If you don’t need to be inspired by art work or pretty lettering and you can happily work with a basic design, then, here you go. This planner page took five minutes to throw together. Maybe, you are person who actually loves a messy look journal..that’s also great. The real point is:
MAKE IT WORK FOR YOUR DESIRED FUNCTION!
Here is an example…what if your desired function is not really personal at all. Maybe, you want your journal to become popular on social media??? Maybe, you want to make it your job, somehow?? But, you are not an artist or you can’t do calligraphy???? Can it be successful?
YESSSSSSS! Absolutely. But you must include what your bullet journal requires for you to achieve your desired function. So, for you to use it to become popular, you must now think of what people are going to see. You must include something that would be aesthetically pleasing for it to become something that people want to look at. That still leaves you with lots of options. I do have a suggestion though…
If you have embraced the idea of using a bullet journal, and you are setting out on this journey, don’t completely limit yourself. Try new things! I don’t consider myself an artist, yet I keep doodling. I haven’t mastered calligraphy yet, but I am interested in learning it, so I am on that journey. Do try to keep experimenting, but still remember that key point….
PUT INTO YOUR BULLET JOURNAL WHATEVER YOU NEED TO MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU!
They’re my thoughts for this week, folks! Hope you enjoyed! Happy bujo-ing!
